Authorised Purpose

Akarana supports a wide range of sporting and community organisations.

Akarana may make grants for:

  • any charitable purpose;
  • any non-commercial purpose that is beneficial to the whole or a section of the community;
    and
  • promoting, controlling, and conducting race meetings under the Racing Act 2003, including
    the payment of stakes.

The above authorised purposes include, but are not limited to:

  • amateur sport that involves the pursuit of physical fitness. Sports with Olympic status will
    be given priority, including sports such as swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball,
    cycling, hockey, soccer, gymnastics, rowing, rugby sevens, sport climbing, table tennis,
    tennis, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling. Other sports such as cricket, kabaddi, netball, and
    rugby will also be given priority status;
  • relieving poverty by providing milk and breakfasts to low-decile schools;
  • relieving poverty by providing shoes, raincoats, school uniforms and other essential clothing
    to students in need at low decile schools;
  • non-profit community cultural or arts festivals;
  • the support of immigrants and their integration into the local community;
  • public health services including education, counselling and rehabilitation services;
  • supporting non-commercial emergency rescue services including surf lifesaving; and
  • development and maintenance of community centres, sporting centres, or other facilities
    that benefit the community or a section of the community.

 

Grants will not be made for:

  • personal or commercial gain;
  • professional sport; or
  • groups or individuals standing for an election to public office.
